In Vietnam, there are many meaningful and long-standing customs. As a Vietnamese citizen, I am extremely proud of our custom called "asking for handwriting", which is one of Vietnamese nice cultural traits and worthy to be adopted by other countries. Firstly, the custom shows desires or particular concepts and personal identities of people who want pictures of handwriting in the first days of a lunar new year. No difference between the rich and the poor, the old and the young, the local and the foreign is made in this customs. For example, the middle-aged asks for the handwriting of "Soul" or "Patience", the youth needs "Fame", "Love", "Loyalty", "Faithfulness" or "Will". A present for parents is "Peace" or "Safeness", one for the old is "Longevity". In addition, these words are often written in papers of red, pink or yellow colors, which symbolize luck. Secondly, the custom dignifies Vietnamese fondness of learning. The scholars, who give pictures of handwriting, always explain the far-reaching significance of each word written and the inquirers largely seem excited about this. Besides, many scholars are very young. Despite this, a lot of parents choose them as writers because they hope their children can learn from the youth's studiousness. In conclusion, the sincerity of both inquirers and givers of handwriting helps this custom be preserved with spiritual senses. Our foreign friends might apply it to their countries so as to remind them to love their mother languages and promote national fondness of learning.

In our country, there are quite lots of different festivals every years. However, I think Tet festival is the most typical festival for most Vietnamese people. Though we can live or work far from our family, we still try to get together at Tet. Tet festival often occurs in late January or February.

It is a good chance for us to have days off and have time to visit relatives or friends for giving good luck and the best wishes to each other. For some people who are rich, they can go on a trip somewhere in Viet Nam or in foreign countries to enjoy Tet festival

i like country life. because people in the countryside are more friendly than those who live in city

in the countryside, the enviroment is very fresh and it have many trees. my mind is better: not busy, peaceful.

many people say that: " the country life is very boring!" but i don't think so. i think although the countryside doesn't have many means of the entertainment but we can play traditionnal games..

in the city, people always want to work and work, they want to have much money. so, sometimes they forget many interesting things in their life.

in the countryside, you can become another one : you are better, happier anh care of everybody. here, people are a big family, if you are sad, they are sad with you. if you smile, they smile with you

only thing i want to say " i love country life and my Hanam province, forever"

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D to indicate the correct answer to each of the questions.

INTERNATIONAL GIFT-GIVING CUSTOMS

The tradition of gift giving is a worldwide practice that is said to have been around since the beginning of human beings. Over time, different cultures have developed their own gift giving customs and traditions.

In France, the gift of wine for the hostess of a dinner party is not an appropriate gift as the hostess would prefer to choose the vintage for the night. In Sweden, a bottle of wine or flowers are an appropriate gift for the hostess. In Viet Nam, a gift of whisky is appropriate for the host, and some fruit or small gifts for the hostess, children or elders of the home. Besides, gifts should never be wrapped in black paper because this color is unlucky and associated with funerals in this country. Gifts that symbolize cutting such as scissors, knives and other sharp objects should be avoided because they mean the cutting of the relationship. Also, in some countries you should not open the gift in front of the giver and in others it would be an insult if you did not open the gift.

Beyond the gift itself, give careful consideration to the manner in which it is presented. Different cultures have different customs regarding how a gift should be offered - using only your right hand or using both hands, for example. Others have strong traditions related to the appropriate way to accept a gift. In Singapore, for instance, it is the standard to graciously refuse a gift several times before finally accepting it. The recipient would never unwrap a gift in front of the giver for fear of appearing greedy.

Understanding these traditions and customs, as well as taking time to choose an appropriate gift, will help you to avoid any awkwardness or embarrassment as you seek to build a better cross-cultural relationship.

Which of the following is NOT true about gift-giving customs?

A. In France, wine is not considered a suitable gift for the hostess of a dinner party.

B. In Sweden, it is not customary to bring some wine or flowers when you are invited to a dinner party.

C . In Viet Nam, such things as scissors, knives and other sharp objects shouldn't be used as a gift.

D. In Singapore, it is unacceptable to open the gift right in front of the giver.
