5. Holly and Lucia are travelling round Europe and want to stay somewhere cheap and with nightlife nearby. They hope to make friends with other young travellers like themselves.

A. Royal

It’s easy to miss this central hotel hidden away in a side street. Full of character, it is popular with families and business travellers but don’t expect luxury service. Unlimited coffee, but nothing more, is available in the morning, but there are food stores a short walk away.

B. Mars

Hotel Mars is located on one of the main streets, a short walk from tourist attractions, theatres and restaurants. The luxury rooms are beautifully decorated and furnished with antiques. An excellent breakfast is served by waiters in the top-floor restaurant, which also offers spectacular evening views over the city.

C. Haussman

The wonderful city museum is right next door to this friendly 19th century hotel. The old-fashioned furniture and attractive iron balconies all add to the homely atmosphere. The hotel games room will keep all ages entertained, and there’s plenty on offer at the self-service breakfast. Staff are always happy to supply information about what’s on.

D. Windmill

This medium-priced hotel surrounded by artists’ studios, lively bars and interesting food shops is right in the middle of the city. The underground station outside will take you anywhere, including the airport within minutes. Help yourself to breakfast from 8 am downstairs, or coffee and rolls can be brought to your room before that.

E. Hi-Tech

All costs are kept low here. Guests book on the internet, then check in and buy everything they need from machines. Breakfast comes in airline-style boxes. You sleep in a tiny cabin for one and roll up your bed during the day. A fun choice for backpackers, who get together in the lively club next door.

F. Archway

This 19th century hotel is in a busy area with plenty of restaurants. It was modernised two years ago and now has a fitness centre. Rooms are very comfortable with widescreen TV. There is no restaurant, but you can order decent hot food via reception from the takeaway next door.

Ex1: Read the following passage. Write T(for TRUE) or F (for FALSE) and NI if there is no information given.

Many people now think that teachers give pupils too much homework. They think that it is unnecessary for children to work at home in their free time. Moreover, they argue that most teachers do not properly plan the homework tasks they give to pupils. The result is that pupils have to repeat tasks which they have already done at school.

Recently in Greece many parents complained about the difficult homework which teachers gave to their children. The parents said most of the homework was a waste of time, and they wanted to stop it. Spain and Turkey are two countries which stopped in Europe, teachers cannot set homework at weekends. In Holland, teachers allow pupils to stay at school to do their homework. The children are free to help one another. Similar arrangements also exist in some British schools.

Most people agree that homework is unfair. A pupil who can do his homework in a quiet and comfortable room is in a buch better position than a pupil who does his homework in a small, noisy room with television on. Some parents help their children with their homework. Other parents take no interest at all in their children's homework.

It is improtant, however, that teachers talk to parents about homework. A teacher should suggest suitable tasks for parents to do with their children. Parents are often better at teaching their own children!

VI Read the following passage and answer each of the question below. ( 10 points )

We speak about the weather almost everyday. Before we begin doing something we want to know what kind of weather it is going to be.

Why do we speak about the weather so often? The answer is not difficult. We want sunny weather when we go for a walk in the country, and on a rainy day we stay at home reading books, watching TV or doing other things.

When we are at the seaside, windy weather is not pleasant . It is difficult to swim when the wind blows. And the wind can change good weather into bad one. The sun will stop shinning, and the rain may come.

And is there anything which we can do and must do in any weather? Yes, of coure there is. As English people say*rain or shine we must go to school.*.School is good in any weather, isn’t it?

It is obviously important for a farmer, a fisherman, an airplanr pilot, and a hip’s captain to know what the weather will be like. Unless they know what weather to expect , they cannot make their plans.

1 How often do we speak about the weather?

2 What do we usually do on a rainy day?

3 What is wrong with us when we are at the seasidde on a windy day?

4 According to the writer, what thing can we do and must we do in any weather?
